Kembara Borneo - Pulau Labuan

Kami tiba di Terminal Feri Antarabangsa Labuan ketika hari sudah hampir gelap. Setelah tiba kami 'kehilangan punca' sekejap.......tak tahu nak buat apa kerana kami tidak ada menempah bilik hotel atau apa-apa tempat penginapan untuk malam itu. Akhirnya kami mengambil keputusan untuk naik teksi dan meminta pemandunya membawa kami ke mana-mana hotel yang biasa menjadi tumpuan pelancong. Alhamdulillah! Kami dapat mencari bilik dengan mudah di sebuah hotel bajet. Sebenarnya lokasi berdekatan hotel kami itu. memang terdapat banyak hotel bajet.

Malam itu selepas solat maghrib dan Isya' kami keluar mencari makan. Ketika berjalan-jalan mencari tempat untuk menjamu selera, barulah kami sedar yang kawasan hotel kami itu tidaklah berapa jauh daripada terminal feri. Oleh kerana kami naik teksi dan dibawa mengikut laluan yang berpusing-pusing, nampak seperti jauh!

Pinggan yang di sebelah kanan itu adalah hidangan udang lipan bakar. Ini pertama kali saya makan udang jenis ini di Malaysia tetapi bagi suami inilah pertama kali dia makan dan menikmatinya. Pertama kali saya makan 'mantis shrimp' ini di Sunderland, UK semasa saya baru belajar di sana. Masa itu kami dapat saiz yang kecil dan kami menggorengnya sahaja; tetapi yang di Labuan ini saiznya agak besar dan kami ambil beberapa ekor untuk dibakar. Apabila dihidangkan ianya sudah siap dibelah dua supaya mudah dikorek isinya yang tidak berapa banyak.

Pada keesokan harinya pagi-pagi lagi kami sudah keluar bersarapan dan terus ke terminal feri untuk bergambar sambil membeli kerana  di sana juga terdapat gerai-gerai yang menjual barang suvenir. Berdekatan dengan terminal juga ada kedai-kedai besar yang menjual berbagai-bagai barang......dari peralatan dapur. kain sarong pelikat,batik hinggalah ke cokelat yang beraneka jenis. Jadi kami buat 'shopping' sedikit sebelum balik ke bilik. 



Sebenarnya semasa kami berada berdekatan dengan lokasi hotel, kami disapa oleh beberapa orang pengusaha kereta sewa yang menawarkan khidmat mereka. Kami memang berniat untuk menyewa teksi bagi membawa kami bersiar-siar di pulau ini selama berapa jam yang kami ada sebelum balik ke tanah besar. Jadi suami pun bertanya-tanya harga yang ditawar. Akhirnya kami bersetuju menyewa kereta sewa 'sapu' kerana harga yang ditawar lebih murah. Pemandunya kata dia buat kerja ini 'partime' sahaja.

Kami hanya ada masa lebih kurang 3 jam sahaja untuk berpusing-pusing hari itu. Adalah beberapa tempat menarik yang sempat pemandu ini membawa kami. Antaranya:

Labuan International Sea Sport Complex

Labuan International Sea Sport Complex is one of the interesting places to go in Labuan, Malaysia. It is located along the beach at the Tanjung Purun Road. It is situated not far away from the city centre of Labuan. One of the well known landmarks in located near to the complex which is the Labuan Tourism Action Council.
The Labuan International Sea Sport Complex is 5.91 acres big and acts as a part of the beautification project of Labuan's Waterfront. It is a world class water sports centre. It is officially opened in the year of 2001. The sea sport complex hosts the inaugural Labuan International Sea Challenge annually. There are more activities including championship and other events hosted in this venue apart from the sea challenge. Activities and events held in the complex are the Rolex IGFA International Game Fishing Tournament and Round Island Kayak Challenge. The complex has very distinctive architectural design. This complex can be divided into a few sections. They are the block of administrative, a marine biology museum, eateries and some souvenir shops. The museum is sited next to the administrative block in a different building. Apart from the world class architecture complex, visitors often visit this very place as there are souvenir shops and amazing eateries. There are famous local food and handicrafts items selling in the complex.

Labuan Bird Park

As the name stated, Labuan Bird Park is undoubtedly located in the famous free port island, Labuan. It is located around 16km away from the city centre of Labuan Island. It is situated at the northernmost tip of Labuan Island and it is near to one of the famous landmarks, Tanjung Kubong Tunnel. The park is accessible via the Tanjung Kubong Road.
The 6.9 hectares big Labuan Bird Park acts as a home to all kinds of Borneo birds where you can hardly see it around anywhere except in the deep forests of Borneo. There are many different species, up to 580 of birds showcased in the bird park. They include the famous Cockatoo, kingfishers, peacocks, hornbills and sharmas, just to name a few. There are quite a number of activities that can be done in the park. Besides sightseeing while gaining knowledge towards all these exotic birds, one can take photographs with them and enjoy the daily performances featuring live bird show. A visit to the Labuan Bird Park is definitely worth every penny as it is suitable for all ages. You can bring your family with elders and kids and they will enjoy the day for sure. Plus, the entrance fee is affordable. It is only RM3 for adults, RM1 for children from ages 5 to 12 and for those under the age of 5, they get free entrance. The amazing bird park is opened every day including public holidays from 10am to 5pm.

The Chimney

The famous mystery chimney is located in Labuan, Malaysia. It is standing high at Tanjung Kubong. There are quite a few landmarks located nearby and so it is not difficult to find The Chimney. There are Chimney Information Centre and the Chimney Historical Complex.

This chimney was built in the year of 80's and the usage of it is still a mystery. It is stated that there is no traces of smoke and whatsoever that indicate that it works like any normal chimney. However, the locals believe that it was used as a ventilation shaft. Still, there are many people that have other thought. Some say that it is just an unfinished mansion built in those days while others claim that it is a light house to be. Until today, no one knows the right purpose of this chimney and this is why it is such mysterious. This also acts as an attraction which attracts tourists around the world as well as locals. It has a height of 106 feet and it was built with stacks of red bricks. It was made up with up to 23,000 pieces of red bricks that are imported from the England. The architectural style and design are more or less the same as those of British. Near to the chimney, there is a museum with the name of Chimney Museum which showcases lots of information that are related. There are the brick samples from the chimney and the reinforcement materials used during the construction, just to name a few.

Kami hanya sempat pergi ke tiga tempat di atas dalam masa 2 jam setengah. Kemudian kami mengajak pemandu ke kedai Perusahaan SBS untuk membeli makanan laut beku. Setengah jam kemudian, lebih kurang pukul 1 tengahari kami sudah berada di terminal. Kami tidak boleh lewat bertolak kerana perjalanan masih jauh. Kami harus ke KK kerana flight balik ke Semenanjung dari sana pada malam itu. 

Makanan laut ini dibungkus dengan begitu baik sekali........khas untuk dibawa atas  penerbangan
